A Song to Selma with Sofia Karlsson
Sofia Karlsson will come to Salsta Castle in April 2026 for a magical evening in the spirit of Selma Lagerlöf! This unique evening you will not want to miss...
Sofia Karlsson is an outstanding live performer, singer and instrumentalist. Many associate her with interpretations of Dan Andersson and, most recently, Selma Lagerlöf. Sofia Karlsson has won four Grammys in Sweden and two in Denmark, as well as many other fine awards. In 2025, her work on “A Song to Selma” was awarded the Selma Lagerlöf Society's scholarship.
Sofia on “A Song for Selma”:
“This is a tribute to the work and work of Selma Lagerlof. With great inspiration and joy, I have picked out parts and themes I love from Selma's work. Themes are always relevant to the industry, then as now. Because of that, I wanted to be in time, the time that is mine.”
“The music I have written is freely based on Selma's compositions, speeches, poems and letters. From these, I have, with great inspiration, together with lyricist Johan Salberg, created songs. We have used original, but also changed, moved words, repeated, deleted, to the benefit of singability. I hope that the result will give people (beyond meanings, meaning and music joy!) a real entrance to Selma Lagerlof's great works and unique author's world.”
Salsta Castle is more closely associated with the theme than many people know. The lyricist and initiator of “A Song to Selma”, Johan Salberg, strolled almost daily around Salsta Castle like Vattholmabo, with drafts of the songs in the lurkers, or in conversation with Sofia, or with paper and pen in a musical, literary, creative process that went on for several years. Johan is originally from Selmas Gösta Berling's surroundings in Fryksdalen and his paternal grandmother was Selma's chambermaid at Mårbacka.
